Turkmenistan is stepping up steps to join the World trade organisation

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers using the digital system, where key issues of state life were discussed. During the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov reported on the progress of cooperation with the World trade organisation (WTO) and presented a number of new proposals.

In particular, it was proposed to hold the next meeting of the relevant working group on the 10th of June to discuss the final version of the «Memorandum on foreign trade rules of Turkmenistan». In addition, it is planned to begin work in conjunction with the WTO to select a country to chair the working group on Turkmenistan among the states of the European and Asia-Pacific regions.

To coordinate the further process of integration into the global trading system, it is planned to create a National negotiating group. Its responsibilities will include conducting direct negotiations, as well as the participation of representatives of the structure in preparatory trainings and WTO meetings as observers.

After hearing the report, the head of state noted the high potential for deepening relations with the Organisation and instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and the head of the MFA to continue productive work in this area.
