At the conference held in Scientific-Clinical Center of Mother and Child Health Protection, it was held the discussion of National Strategy and Action Plan within 2015-2019 “Health protection of mothers, newborns, children and teenagers in Turkmenistan”. This document worked out with technical support of UNICEF, WHO and UNFPA has been approved at the end of last year in the days of celebration of the 25th anniversary since adoption of Convention on children’s rights.
As the UNICEF specialist for healthcare and nutrition Shafag Rahimova has noted in her speech, the realization of this strategy will contribute to the strengthening of healthcare system of Turkmenistan, efficient implementation of programs in this sphere. Strategy outlines the priorities of consolidation of home-nursing system, as well as development of service for early diagnosis of difficulties in development of children and timely intervention.
Besides, National Action Plan envisages the long-term goals in the field of health protection of mothers and newborns, nutrition, infectious diseases, services of pediatrics, which include integrated management of diseases in childhood, chronic diseases and disability. It is also aimed at decrease of traumatism, improvement of physical environment, promotion of healthy life-style among teenagers and securing optimal early development of children.
Adoption of Strategy implies the readiness of the Government to fulfill global obligations and challenges for action, which include Global Strategy of UN General Secretary “Every woman, every child”, Global Initiative “Commitment to child survival: renewed promise”, Rational Strategy of WHO on health until 2020, European Strategy on health protection of children and teenagers within 2015-2020, and Program “World suitable for life of children after 2015”.
Principle of systemic approach on the basis of adoption of the best practices of other countries underlies the worked out strategy. It outlines long-term goals: improvement of perinatal and pediatric service, services of early development of child and teenagers, solution of nutrition issues, prevention of infectious diseases and traumatism, improvement of physical environment.
Excursion to Early Development Center became original demonstration of provisions of National Strategy. Its specialists help the children with limited possibilities revealed till a birth or in the first year of life without medicines but only special studies and trainings not to lag behind in development from children of the same age.
According to experts of UNICEF, experience of this centre - the unique one today in the Central Asia - is necessary for developing and introducing not only across all Turkmenistan, but also in the neighbouring countries, giving it the international status.
